I Don't Like Ike

Well, I decided on Wednesday that if we had to leave anyway, we may as well not drag our feet about it. We secured the homestead as best we could and made for my mother's house some 85 miles inland.
We had canned goods, clothes for a couple of days, a very apprehensive cat (Poor Mr. Boots!), and a sad feeling about leaving our home. We drove off, and I prayed the house would still be standing when we returned.
After monitoring the situation from the new "command center" in Prairie Lea- we were very happy that the storm has turned quite northernly, and although Victoria will be hit with wind and rain, we are far from the direct hit we were expecting.
Of course, our good news is someone else's bad news, and I pray for all in the path of this storm.

I love this image. I meant to add it to the last post. KellyGirl

One down 35 to go

Well, the first week of the 08-09 school year has been successfully completed. The new kids are doing very well. We are off to a great start.
This is my third time around. We will learn about maps and charts and graphs, and how to read their information. We will become cartographers. We will see far off lands, and walk down the Great Wall of China. We will see the Taj Mahal up close. We will learn about ancient Egypt and King Tut and all those cool guys. We will learn how people were mummified, and did their brains really come out through their nose? (yes, they did!) The grosser it is, the more the kids will love it. Just wait till we get to the Renaissance and start learning about The Black Death!
Gee Whiz, I love it all.
Have a great week, KellyGirl
